| Posted: | | | | I know a lot of us have speculated the main reason DVD Profiler updates have been lagging is there's no money in it anymore. Here are some ideas:
Price-tracking. If we could set target prices for movies and the program could monitor prices for several sites and give an alert when the threshold is reached, this would both be useful to the end user and bring in affiliate money. Right now, I have to maintain wish lists multiple places.
Support for non-physical formats. With just a little tweaking, DVD Profiler could support iTunes and Vudu and such as well, making it useful to a lot of people who've had no reason to buy. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't use iTunes for movies, but I do have a VUDU account and with tags and Custom Media Type, I already track them. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | Expanding on the above: go beyond movies. I think tweaking the profiles for other products might be easy enough so "shoehorn" them in a little. Video games would be the closest I can think of, CDs is of course and often-made request.
Maybe using the online database could become subscription based; at least for those (like me) mostly leeching. Contributor's could. Depending the needs, subscription could be as low as $1/year maybe, something that anyone could afford...
Heck, if this is becoming more of a hobby to Invelos, why not adding a donation link... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | dvdp used to have price tracking of sorts... i believe this was the feature that lead to the big blackout of 2006/2007 and quite a bit of legal stuff for Ken... my guess is it's off the table.
at this point i think the donation link is a good idea, i know it's probably more work as it was never finished, but the dvd profiler plus subscription add on was always an intriging idea for me... i used to run php profiler but i've gotten too old and lazy, with that said the online collection leaves quite a bit to be desired.
i don't need some massive thing... just a prettier layout and some basic filters would do... sign me up for a small recurring fee for the trouble. | | | -JoN |
