| Posted: | | | | Hi I bought the App today from Amazon, installed it on my Sony Xperia Z without a problem, then i choose to connect to PC and Update my database. The connection is successfull and it starts "Reading Database", but then after 30 secs or 1 min or a different short period of time i get the error message on my Xperia "Sadly DVD Profiler was closed" It never finishes reading my database, so it never gets to the next step "Copying profiles" I tried a different port, tried a database repair, but it is always the same. Another problem is, I tried to delete the incomplete database on my Xperia, but this seems impossible, as it always says: "cannot delete an open database". But i cannot find any option to close this database and then delete it. Then I copied my backed up database to my Xperia and thought, ok if the updating thru PC is not working, I wil just restore my backed up database, but I cannot even find an option to do this, so this might not even be possible on the Android version. I am pretty frustrated here, any help is more than welcome thx in advance Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | Hi Donnie,
for the initial import of your database disable all other automatic network access functions of your device (e.g. auto-update(s), newsfeeds, etc).
Deleting a database from within DVDP-A requires a second database. Easier way: Delete via file explorer. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | The process over Wifi is slow, not sure if 3G would be the cause of the problem, but if you can try doing it over wifi instead it's worth a try. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Well, as much as I love the DVD Profiler for windows, I have to say the Android APp is one of the worst eps I ever came across, almost nothing is working. I have a state of the art cellphone, the Xperia Z, every app I got works like a charm, but this here is just failing. it is IMPOSSIBLE to get my database on the cellphone, it doesnt work thru Wifi, not thru 3G, not from my online connection, simply nada! Either a connection error or a complete shutdown of the app is happening. What is this app good for if I can't even get my collection to it? Why can't I just restore my database like I can do it with the Windows version ? Sadly I have to say that this app is very badly programmed and that the 6 Euro were wasted on it, but life goes on I guess Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | This connection-problems usually occur when other applications are using the connection too. It seems that DVDP-A requires an exclusive access.
So once more: Please disable ALL functions that may use your chosen connection-type (3G, WiFi, USB). This advice includes (but is not limited to) E-Mail client, newsfeeds, updates, weather-reports, etc. (Android is stuffed with apps that constantly access the network) | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | I don't know if it is too late to offer you any help, but if not:
- Updating via 3G from your local database is something that i would not recommend because it would be difficult to get to work and setup. In theory you could connect to your external ip-adress and forward the port to your pc with the dvd profiler running on it. Plus you would have to configure firewalls on the PC and maybe on the router/modem.
- Updating via Wireless works fine for me, however many users reported firewalls and/or routers sabotaging their efforts. You could try turning off the firewall on your systems (PC and if you have, on your mobile) and see if this helps.
- Restoring your backup: That is not (yet) a feature of the mobile app. It is build to update via wireless from your local database or from your online database. Their is a request-thread in the android forum for a usb export/import however.
General Advice: The inital setup can be a little tricky but once you got that step done, the app should work fine. Most off the initial problems however are not a problem of the app itself but of your network config. |

| Posted: | | | | I think you all misunderstand me. It is no problem to get it started, thru wifi it works , thru 3G it works, but after a few seconds or minutes it either says connection error or the app completely shuts down, so the problem is with the app and NOT with the initial conenction, because I can get it started either way. And I find it rather impossible to shut EVERYTHING on a cellphone off just becuase of DVD profiler. i do not have to do this with any other app. This would mean that DVD Profiler app is really terribly programmed, if it requires me to put my cellphone out of use for hours, cuz hours it would take to do my initial update, if it wouldnt shut down after some secs or minutes Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | So there are actually entries in your mobile database?
One more thing: the app does not take multitasking very well. Switching to another app* during the initial update process is often killing the update process.
*Any other app, i.e. sms-app, whatsapp, mail app... | | | Last edited: by MiDiAN |

Might this be a problem ? With a collection the size of yours I would expect this to take just slightly short of forever. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | I get a few entries yes, before it shuts down. It varies how many I get, depending how fast the app shuts down or the connection error appears. And I got time enough, I also do not pay for traffic, I work for a mobile company , so all is free for me I simply expect, when I buy a software, that it works and not shuts down by itself all the time. And it is in my opinion unacceptable, that I have to shut down everything else and not being able to use my phone for hours. | Posted: | | | | Going off my own experience whilst it's large his collection should be perfectly capable of transferring across in a couple of hours.
Donnie, profiler always wants a databse, so the only way to delete the partially loaded one is to create a new blank one. In the left menu select databases then touch add database in the top right, it'll ask if you want to open that one. You can then delete the partially loaded one.
Obvious quesion but you haven't given details of what steps you've taken so did you delete profiler and reinstall it from the store?
Also as asked in the other thread have you rooted your phone etc... Ken will need details if he's to stand any chance of troubleshooting the app for future updates. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | I will certainly not root my phone , because one single app is not working. Everything else is working like a charm. Yes, I reinstalled the app too, nothing changed. Thx for the tip how to add a new database tho Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | You're turn for misunderstanding I wasn't suggesting you root it, just asking if you had. As I suggested earlier posting more detail about what you've tried, where you've got it installed (internal or media card) etc... etc... would help people narrow down what to suggest or give Ken an idea of what he might need to do to fix it. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Well, yeh that was me misunderstanding I actually did not do much: Bought it from amazon.de, then installed internal, then opened it. All fine so far. Then I started my Windows profiler, did the sharing stuff, got the ip that I need to enter on the mobile, set my passwords and all that stuff, still all working fine. Then did the connection test, all fine. Then I choosed to do my initial update from my local connection, as I obviously want all the info i added locally. Starts fine everytime and then gives me after 20 seconds, 3 min or whatever the message "DVD profiler app has shut down" or "Connection error". After trying for some hours I gave up on that. Then I tried to update from my online connection (tho i do not actually want that). here i get after 5 min or 7 min or whatever the message "connection error". Tried that too for some hours and I got very angry And I am not willing to shut my phone completely down for hours just cuz of the app badly programmed, and I am also pretty much convinced that it still wont work then. | Posted: | | | | Now really, what is it you did expect?
In your collection you have 7700+ titles each and every one of them has to be downloaded and transcribed to the new dataformat. (Assuming from the size of my collection (1100+ titles) this would mean a data-volume of approximately 7 G-Byte). With 3G (about 2 M-Bit) this takes some time but this is definitely NOT caused by a badly programmed app.
Over and out | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
