| Posted: | | | | Small request, really, but if easy to implement... would save some clicks and minutes.
When adding crew to a profile, and when the person you are adding is already in your database, it would be useful if the program "suggested" the correct role based on the person's most common entry in your database. "Suggesting" here meaning that DVDP selects that currently most common entry for this person when you click "Assign Crew Role" (Alt + A) after you have selected the person in crew list.
At the moment it always defaults to Director, but it would be great if the program could do the default based on the name: if I assigned Angelo Badalamenti, it would default to Music -> Composer (because that's how he is mostly credited in my database; if I assigned Edith Head, it would default to Art -> Costume Designer, for the same reason... etc.
Of course many persons have different crew roles, so this wish is only for the default selection. You could of course change the default to whichever role you wished, just as with the Director default at the moment.
Nothing important, as you see, but if this is something that could be implemented easily and is not to much of a burden to the program with required database indexing, why not? | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me. (Bender Bending Rodriguez) |

| Posted: | | | | I'm undecided on this one. One one hand it may save some time. On the other hand it might mislead some people into entering the wrong information; "If it says that Joe Schmoe is an editor, then I guess he is..." Defaults are tricky... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Suppose in your example, Draxen that Angelo Badalamenti was actually credited as Sound Editor instead of his usual Music Composer but you just followed your default....whoopsie.

| Posted: | | | | This could be done by retooling the Credit Lookup Tool . for example if you look up Stanley Kubrick you get this result: "stanley kubrick" is credited in the following 96 titles (754 profiles):
But it could read as follows - "stanley kubrick" is credited (Director/, screenplay,/produced) in the following 96 titles (754 profiles): Then maybe each of the branches of Director, Screenplay, Producer could be link'd down even further in the master data base .. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. So if not blindly following the suggestion it can be a good help to save some time. But I can't imagine how it can be done easily. Without some kind of actor/crew database that is part of the local program: The search could be just done in the profiles in your collection and so don't helps for new crew members that are not yet in collection. Or at entering crew there's always a connection to the online database for searching a suggestion. (Perhaps reduces the time-saving) But if there would be a way to include this, I think it's a nice idea. I still think for actors it would be easier in some kind, because there the suggestion could show up at the contribution notes screen, similar the check boxes for BYs and uncredited. |

Skip Yes, I considered about this myself, before making the feature request... I guess the use of word "suggesting" is very misleading actually. But Skip/Gunnar: Maybe I'm an optimist after all, despite everything , but... I personally don't believe we would end up in trouble with contributors blindly accepting the default crew role the program has selected. I do trust that the people who actually do the crew contributions by diligently checking the actual credits one by one, take these things "seriously" enough not to rush Enter-Enter-doubletaps after assigning role. But of course you might be right. We never know if we don't try - and whether this adaptation is worth the risk, is of course another matter altogether... If users get too used to finding out that the default selection is correct 90% of the time or thereabouts, even the best contributors might get lulled to neglect the doublechecks. That, admittedly, is a possibility but I doubt it really would happen. Everytime the default selection was right, you could enter every crew member without having to use mouse, just with keyboard shortcuts and accepting default 'OK's with [Enter] - which would be nice and quick... that's why I suggested this in the first place. | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me.
