| Posted: | | | | I just want to say this program is great. I demo a lot of software, most of which I find that the demo's suck so I download the full version to try. I like that I was able to make use of the main function of the software for free, yet unlock a lot of other great features by registering. I think you guys did a great job. I think it would be a dandy to do something like this for music and games (PC, XBox, etc) as well. Anyway, is just a thought. |

This is really a great idea and has been asked several times before. Sadly it is very unlikely that any of these will ever appear, since Invelos mainly consists of only 1 developer with very limited time. But this is a great program with a lot more capabilities than become obvious at the first glances. You can use it to catalogue nearly any collectible. Provided you don't need the download function. The Online-database is and will be limited to DVDs. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I as well think that Invelos should have a separate website devoted to music collections.. It is incomprehensible to me that they don't. I can't imagine it would be a huge stretch for Ken (the developer) to create one, as he already has done most of the legwork needed in his creation of DVD Profiler. I just don't understand why he is overlooking a much bigger customer base than DVD collectors and therefore also missing a potentially huge revenue stream. The other thing I don't understand is why he doesn't charge an annual membership fee for DVD Profiler. It's great for everyone belonging to DVD Profiler that he doesn't, but if I were he, I would. I for one would be willing to pay something on the order of let's say $5.00 to $10.00 each year, which is nothing in the scheme of things, hell, a single DVD costs less, and we all can afford hundreds of them it seems. As a businessman I find it weird that someone (Ken) doesn't take advantage (at least to a greater extent) of earning more money. | | | Graham | | | Last edited: by FUBAR |

Probably mainly because the CD as a media is dead, or at least severely ill. For several years now the annual sales are decreasing and there's nearly no hope that they will ever rise again. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! I am certain you are correct regarding declining sales. If you had also mentioned declining sales of DVDs, you would also be correct. CDs are still viable, and for collectors of fine music, CDs are the only way. There are many, many more people in the world who have large CD collections than there are people with large DVD collections. We here at DVD Profiler are a rarity, most people I suspect have just a few favourite DVDs that they own, and do not have a need for something like DVD Profiler. On the other hand, I know personally, maybe a dozen people who each have a substantial number of CDs numbering over a few hundred, and one nitwit who has close to 5,000 CDs. This one doesn't understand my obsession, and neither do I understand his.
The real crux is that the reason CDs are declining is kids (mainly) upload/download, trade with friends, and generally don't buy CDs. Most full fledged adults still do, and the dyed in the wool music nuts will continue to buy until another format comes along such as Blu-Ray has done with ultimately replacing DVDs.
Hell, there are maniacal music lovers out there who still have huge collections of LPs. | | | Graham | | | Last edited: by FUBAR |

As a businessman I find it weird that someone (Ken) doesn't take advantage (at least to a greater extent) of earning more money. Reason is , I believe if not mistaken,, this is a User Based program where we the one time subscribers do most if not of all the footwork and upload scans and data from the DVD's we buy.. I'd imagine if there was an annual fee Invelos would do all the work and we would just download those imports on a weekly basis. As it is now all the titles and and data that are in the database were put there by us.., ( and yes even me on weekly basis .. ) | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | Terry,
I don't think the user/contributor/customers of the program would stop contributing if a $5 to $10 annual fee was charged. There are just way too many people contributing an awful lot of DVDs and to me they obviously do the contributing because they enjoy doing it, it provides them with the pride and the satisfaction that comes from a job well done. In this day and age it is very unusual to have any kind of satisfaction in the workplace. It is however abundantly clear that DVD Profilers's contributors do an excellent job, and they deserve the satisfaction that they get from it.
I on the other-hand do not contribute very much at all, but I, for one, would be willing to pay a nominal annual fee to use DVD Profiler. I think you (even though you contribute quite a bit) would also be willing to pay some amount annually. I also think an annual payment scheme would help assure the ongoing future of DVD Profiler. This is also a reason for Ken to expand his horizons. It makes absolute sense that he would do CDs. It is a natural and obvious progression for his company.
Anyhow, those are my thoughts. I am now going out for a smoke in the frigid cold of Ontario.

This has been asked a few times already, but since there is only one developer (As far as I know) and there are many other things to be done, this would take some time.
Take a look in the Requested features forum. | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |
