I don't know how Sony can offer these rich feature sets without charging for them as MS has done, but I like it.  The list features in the PS3 will be way beyond anything at that point and more is planned for the near and distant future.

Exactly which of these "rich feature sets" does MS charge for?

- Playing any game on-line (this is enough by itself)
- audio and video chat (used a lot)
- messaging (used a lot)

Plus, they have ads throughout the entire process even after you pay the $50 a year.

I guess you misunderstood...or I misunderstood the point of your first comment.  You responded to a post, about an article, announcing new PS3 features with, "I don't know how Sony can offer these rich feature sets without charging for them as MS has done..."

I figured, since you responded in this thread, that you were talking about the new features mentioned in the article.  I didn't realize that your post had nothing to do with this thread title.

I got this last night.  After initially installing, I tried to watch a DVD and had no sound.  But I turned my receiver off and back on and that seemed to fix it.  Hopefully it was just an odd glitch and not a reoccurring problem.  The odd thing is that I'm hooked up with HDMI and was still getting a picture.  Anyway, after that, everything behaved normally.  Not that watching an episode of Oz on DVD is much of a test.

Isnt it strange how AS suddenly goes quiet sometimes, maybe he cant post from his PS3 browser because its bricked:

As we've already reported, SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.

This action follows a large number of reports on the official PlayStation message boards of the update adversely affecting users' systems. The most widely noted problem is systems simply failing to reach the XMB upon booting, instead getting stuck on a screen with only the familiar "wave" background displayed.

Some posters have reported that removing the PS3 hard disk, formatting it via a PC, then re-inserting it allows the PS3 to boot properly ... with the obvious drawback of losing everything – profiles, saves, DLC, etc. – that was on the drive.

Joystiq contacted SCEA for comment on the situation as was told by PR director Patrick Seybold that they are aware of the message thread and that they are "looking into it right now and will work with those customers directly to address any issues they may be experiencing." This comment came before the update was removed from Sony's servers. We're seeking further comment and will update as we receive it.

I'm not seeing anything there that would explain the issue.  And it returned again this afternoon.  I tried to watch a DVD, and there was nothing but silence (I did have a picture).  I turned the receiver off and on again and got the sound back.

    Joystiq

I went quiet?  When was this?  Are you talking about the 6 or so months I haven't been on these boards after Blu-ray won almost exactly like I said it would (projected from the end of 2006)?  That has nothing to do with this, though.

    http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=59767

Maybe you should go vote there, if your PS3 was bricked.  Was it?

One of MS firmware updates bricked WAY MORE units than this one from Sony, but here you are...acting like it never happened.

Clearly, I was talking about the total sum of those online services.  I guess when you're on a witch hunt you tend to get things wrong.

Not sure.  I've not had the time to test with a Blu-ray yet and it's only a minor inconvenience at this point.  I don't know enough yet to track it down to any particular sequence of events.  If I can reproduce it, then I'll try it with a Blu-ray.  But I probably won't have the time to mess with it until the weekend.

Why would I be on a witch hunt?  I just figured your post had something to do with the thread title.

I mean, I have seen how you react when other people make comments that have nothing to do with the thread title.  I didn't think you would do the same thing.  I guess I was wrong.
