Just a little bit curious about this sensitive issue!

Friends and family are welcome to watch dvd's in my home, but to be honest I am never lending my dvd's. Here are some reasons for this:

1. I hate empty space in my shelves
2. I need all my dvd's available for watching
3. When dvd's returned from smokers, I can smell it (and don't like it).
4. I'm not a free of charge alternative to local video/dvd rental stores.

I'm fortunate that my friends (and there aren't many of them) are mature and reliable enough that I can lend them DVD's all the time, and I've never had one come back in an less than perfect condition. The only way i know they have been loaned out is that I do have them at home.

I will loan to my family and select friends on the strict understanding that if the disk goes missing or is damaged they will replace it. I was badly bitten with my CDs as I had several go missing or come back badly damaged that I stopped lending to all who asked. My family, unfortunately, I have not been able to stop but I do limit them in as much as they cannot have as many as they may want and cannot get others until they have returned the previously loaded lot. Also, I do not allow them to take newly acquired DVDs until I have watched them, or they are at least a month old (whichever comes first as I don't always watch what has just arrived due to the backlog, but in these cases they will have to return them if I want them ). I love the loaned facility on Profiler as it allows me to keep track of who has what, and how long they have had them!

Same here, only my family and friends are the sort that understand that without being told, I'm glad to say.

I gladly invite people to watch DVDs at my home or I bring some DVDs to a friends house to watch them there, but I don't lend ANY DVD. My DVDs stay with ME! 

I do loan to family and friends. However, last year my parents went on holiday for three weeks and left my Dad's Army season 4 disc 1 spinning in the DVD player (no harm was done to it as far as I can tell). They have no idea how to use chapter search or any other functions on the player, so they usually just pause it at a spot when they go out, away, sleep. So discs can end up spinning in the player for days on end ( or weeks). They think the discs are indestructable!
