I've rarely spent more than $10 on a Blu-ray. I shop at Amazon and wait for sales.

Special Effects/Soaring vistas type films I will only buy on Blu (or replace my dvds).

But other films, such as dramas/romantic comedies I tend to buy the cheaper DVD version (when they hit the sales for £3-£5 or so).

To date the only TV show I've bought on Blu was Being Human Series 1; but generally speaking I think TV shows are way too expensive on Blu (eg. I just picked the R1 version of Heroes Season 3 on DVD for £15.00 including shipping...the UK BD would cost me £40+. Not really feasible IMO).

Initially I said I wouldn't replace any of my DVDs...but as time's gone by I've found I can't resist when I can get a bargain (recently: Hairspray for £2.85 and Fantastic 4 for £3.98).
If I had the money I would probably replace every film I could...but I don't...so I can't!

Mostly TV series on DVD. Sometimes when an e-tailer has good bargains on DVD's I pick em up.
New releases are blu only for me, unless not available on the format.
I also still buy HD-DVD when possible.

Older TV shows, low budget movies and documentaries (except the Planet Earth type available on BR) I still get on DVD. But most of my new acquisition are BR only.

Now that some time has passed since you first asked this question.. Now I only buy TV Shows that aren't being released on BD on DVD. First I said I still buy movies that aren't out on BD.. By now when you wait a few weeks you'll get them either in the UK or Germany or the US.. So it's really just TV Shows on DVD now..

I buy tv series and bargains on dvd. Depending on the price performance ratio, I buy new movies on blu-ray!

I haven't had a Blu-ray player that long, so I don't have many Blu-rays yet.  I am starting to pick up a few more.

I'll probably still get TV shows on DVD.  I've picked up some cheaper DVDs since I've gotten the Blu-ray player.  It depends on the price and what I find available really.

I picked 'Yes, when HD won't matter as much.'  Because of the price, I only purchase Blu-ray discs when HD is an important aspect of the film.  If, however, the Blu-ray is on sale, then that rule no longer applies.  Most of my Blu-rays cost less than $20.00.

^ This.

I find that only if I truly want the movie.  I have picked up a few that I own on DVD, but like others, I will not collectively upgrade y collection.  A few here or there yes.

Is tend to look for the combo if I can get them.  I have 2 BD players in the house, a stand alone, and a PS3.  Otherwise, I still have 6 DVD playerr in the house, and 2 in the vehicles and a couple of portables for the kids.

I will probably purchase a majority of DVD's for a while.

Well DVD/BD Combos seem to be the best choice for you.. It also seems that more and more companies release those... Maybe for that exact reason..

I, myself, try to buy BD only Versions, if they are cheaper, since I don't need the DVD's anymore.. I don't have a DVD Player in my Car and I have 2 BD Players, one in the Living room and one in the bedroom.. So the only place where a DVD would make sense would be the PC Coner but I rarely watch movies there..

But even in Germany.. (The last big market where this happend, after the US and the UK).. BD Editions are usually cheaper than the 2 Discs DVD "Deluxe" Editions so it's no a hard choice of what to buy

If it's a movie my wife and I both like, I'll buy both the BD & the SD.  I just ditch the Digital Copy from the BD and put the SD disc in it's spot.  If both versions are the same, SD it is.  If my wife doesn't care for the title and there's more features (other than the stupid BD-Live), BD it is.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

"If both versions are the same SD it is".. I don't quite get that.. You'd settle for the inferiour version by choice?

I've been buying a lot of blu's lately.  The only time I buy DVDs are now are if they are really cheap, like less than $3 a piece and if it's something I don't think I'll want to double dip on.  I've also double dipped quite a bit and then sell the DVDs to try and recoup some of the money.  In some cases the DVD has content that didn't make it on the Blu-ray I'll hold onto it as well.  Or in some cases, I like the movie & edition of the movie so much I don't want to part with it.  An example is that I bought FIght Club on Blu-ray but I have no plans on getting rid of the CE version of it.

After three years with Blu-ray (and HD DVD) I still buy DVDs. I'll buy DVD when they are cheap and I don't think that having it in HD matters because of the quality of the production or the transfer, or when it's the only option and I don't see a HD version anywhere on the horizon. But I also replace a lot of DVDs when the HD version truly offers a significant upgrade (or if the price is really good). But it also depends how interested I am in the title. No point in upgradiing things I'm not likely to watch again...
