| Posted: | | | | I am moaning because I am no computer nub and because I tried everything possible and the fact that the application only works when everything else is shut down is stone age mentality.
Also i read thru some other threads here, many people had massive problems getting this app to work.
And I am simply not willing to put any more hours of my life in getting a thing to work, that should work from the start.

| Posted: | | | | I just bought it on Amazon (and thank you, didn't know it was available there)...and installed it just now. I did find out, in trying to connect to my PC (using a wireless local network) that I had to my server name was my computer name or it's IP address, the port was defaulted to 32847, and since I chose no password in DVD Profiler's "Share" option, it has connected just fine, read my database, and is now copying my profiles to my external SD card in my Samsung LG4 LTE. Assuming it copies the cover scans, I should be good to go....I'm hoping this information might help. | | | Geosnoopy75 |

| Posted: | | | | All we can go on is what you post and from those posts it doesn't seem you have tried everything possible.
As for the other issues yes they have happened and they've usually been resolved by basic troubleshooting, e.g. changing firewall settings. As I said before you're the only person who's reporting it as crashing every time after it starts.
As for only working when everything else is switched off, no idea if that's true I have it set up on my tablet not a phone, so I didn't have anything else running. It's also pretty much a one off lengthy process for the initial update. Once done updating it for new additions is very quick. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

I don't think that's true. I didn't have to shut down anything to use it. But in order to find the "bug", if it exists, is to eliminate as many sources for conflicts as possible, which means starting from as "clean" system as possible. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Well I found what was causing it. Tho it makes no sense to me.
I have two categories. DVD and Blu-ray.
When i do Blu-Ray alone, all goes well. When I do DVD all alone it crashes.
Of course I did a database repair, I even opened a brand new database on my PC and restored from the repaired backup, but still the same.
Then I went deeper into this. I am starting to use only DVDs with letter "A", works, with letter A+B = works, with letter A+B+C = crash. So i left out C and continued with A+C+D = works.
So the reason that it is not working seems to be some profiles in my database which the Android app cannot read correctly, as it always crashes while reading the database.
I have excluded 5 letters now, which do not work. Of course it will only be a few files within those letter that cause the "read database" crash.
Not sure if I got the willpower to find out what titles are causing it.
But my mind is at ease now, that it was nothing I did wrong. It is simply a fault of the Android application, which fails for some reason to read some profiles of my database correctly.

In this case check what happens if you exclude Headshots (Perform a manual backup, unflag "Headshots" and restore to a new database). Thanks a lot for not giving up and sharing the results of your research. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Just out of curiosity: will the headshots, which are stored inside the Windows-DB, be copied to the Android-DB? I don't get mine transfered, but that might be, because I store them outside the DB... Also I don't believe in those causing the issue, since downloading from the Online-DB seems to bring up the same issue - and there are no headshots online. (However, it's still worth a try...) @DarklyNoon: Try to find a single profile, which is causing this issue. And then have a look what's different to any other one that's working. Maybe you can export that profile and we all can have a look at it? | | | |

| Posted: | | | | I can confirm that neither headhots, front/back cover scans or gallery photos are the problem, as I have those removed.
Not sure when I got the time to look into this any deeper, but the status is now that I have got a few letters in my "DVD" category which contain profiles, that makes the app shut down while reading the database.
Weird thing is that none of my Blu-ray profiles causes a problem. Also none of my other custom categories. They all work fine.

| Posted: | | | | I think it's some kind of personal data like notes, location, slot, tags, purchase place, purchase price... | | | |

| Posted: | | | | Another way to corrupt the database without database repair being able to fix this:
Corrupted Studios!
Scenario (DO NOT TRY THIS WITH YOUR DEFAULT DATABASE!!): - Open Studio Editor - Click on a Studio of your choice (preferably one of the big ones like e.g. Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE)) - In the text-field now enter 1111Test (just to have it at the top of the listing). - Close Studio Editor, Profile Editor, DVD Profiler - Relaunch DVD Profiler and see what happens when trying to remove 1111Test
The overwritten Studio got re-established (if you are lucky), nevertheless 1111Test has those profiles attached that originally had PHE as studio, strangely those still list PHE and not 1111Test
Result: You end up with several text-entries in datafields that have no matching data in the Studio database.
This error is easy to get, since many seem to think that the text field in Studio Editor is for search, which it is not. And it is extremely hard to spot, since normally you wouldn't enter an invented, but an existing Studio, which over time may even get other, valid, entries attached. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | This is an interesting subject, but sadly I do not know if i did that mistake in the past.
I know the field is not for search, but maybe I did make a mistake once in a while, when I wasn't that concentrated.
Is there any way to locate those "fault" entries ?

Is there any way to locate those "fault" entries ? None that I would be aware of, maybe some of the database-gurus (PlugIn-Developers) can help here. The fact that only DVDs are affected made me think of this "beginners error" I had it once and only got rid of it by manually removing all Studios from all profiles, performing a database repair and re-downloading the studios afterwards. Thankfully my collection only had about 400 profiles at that time. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Didn't do it for me, probably because the entered text was "correct", it just didn't find a match in the database. If you know which Studio(s) it is (are) its easy though, simply choose "Replace" in the Studio Editor. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Hooray!!!!!!! After a long Sunday I found what is causing it. A long time ago when I started with DVD Profiler I added fake UPC's for some titles that did not have an UPC or which were bootlegs of some sort. Those "false made-up" UPCs that I added back then had 15 digits instead of 13. it seems the Android App cannot handle those and makes the app crash while reading the database. After correcting those UPCs everything works fine. In the end it was again the user (myself) who made the mistake, so I guess I should apologize to the developer and coder Sorry KEN Tho it is debatable if the app should crash because of this, but I guess the field just cannot handle the 15 digits instead of the 13. thx to all who made suggestions and helped me out bedtime now Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |
