For me it was 'Yes, when HD won't matter as much. It's not that I can't afford completly BR, My player does quite a nice job of upconverting DVDs, so it will be BR for the "must haves"

I still buy often an dvd, sometimes because there is no HD version or when I just really want that movie but I dont want to spend too much money on it at that moment.
Also sometimes I buy the dvd when I am in the Ukraine, for some local movies.

Yes, I mostly still buy DVD.

Why? Price, Price, Price.

I mostly buy significantly discounted DVDs.

I have a DVDO Edge video processor and intelligent A/V hub that converts standard definition 480i DVDs to 1080p high definition resolution. http://www.anchorbaytech.com/dvdo_edge/

How good the up-scaled image looks is very dependent of the quality of DVD.
The higher the bit rate of the DVD into the video processor the better the up-scaled image looks.
(Garbage in = Garbage out, & High Quality in = High quality out)

I went with a video processor because of the large quantity of DVDs in my collection.

I also have some HD-DVDs, to bad the format is dead.

Blu-ray discs still cost a premium price, and the quality of the lower priced Blu-rays (even from major studios) is not always the best.

I have to agree with TV shows. Dirty, Sex, Money season 2 coming out next month DVD only. If they want Blu-ray to really take off they need to start putting more TV shows on Blu-ray.

I am not a big TV show buyer but, I do buy a couple series.

I buy TV Shows still on DVD and also some obscure movies that will probably never make it to blu ray. But all major titles old or new I get on Blu

I still do, there is a lot of titles that simply just are not avaliable on blu ray.  I don;t doable dip unless I really love the movie, I made that mistake going from VHS to DVD.  Although all of my VHS's are in storage bins now.  If it is a new title and I just kind of want it, a lot of time I will buy the DVD.

I still buy probably more dvd's than blu-ray because of the price. i can still go to walmart and buy dvd's for $5 a piece. when blu-ray's are that low i'll only buy blu-ray, but for now i only buy blu-ray of movies i REALLY want to see and in some cases i buy both blu-ray and dvd like The Dark Knight and Iron Man.(only have PS3 Blu-ray player but have 4 dvd players in my house!) that way i can watch my favorite movies on any tv in my home!!

I bought both of those in both formats as well, except  it was because of the steelbooks.

Yes. I collect movies, not formats.

Still buy DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray when available and not too pricey.

Heck, I'd probably buy laserdisc if I had one!

I draw the line at VHS.

I agree with Patrik; I collect movies.

I don't have a HD DVD player so I don't buy any of those. And my LD player is busted, so I don't watch laserdiscs any more. And after the latest equipment upgrade my VHS player isn't even connected to my AV-amp... I guess I might buy a VHS and connect up my player if I found something that I really, really wanted (and that isn't available in any newer format), but I'd be hard pressed to think what that would be.

I still buy lots of DVDs. There must still be at least ten times as many DVD titles released as BD titles. And with a good upconverting player/TV, many DVDs are quite good enough for me. And, as many of you have said, TV shows.  I just recently got Ironside seasons 3 and 4 from Australia. They're not available on DVD in the US, much less on BD...!

Some rare, older, Japanese movies and series I still buy on DVD because chances are they'll never make it to blu-ray anyway.

Aside from those very rare exceptions, it's blu all the way for me now!

I still buy some SD, depends on the movie.

Still like to refer to this Thread for any recommendations but it seems to be getting buried at the moment.
Due to the suggestions have doubled up on:-
Independence Day
Spider-Man 3
Planet Earth (brilliant suggestion)
Bolt
Incredible Hulk

and on the look out for the Pirates films

Perhaps some of you regular BD buyers could suggest some more

If it's a film then I'll go with the BD (assuming it's been released), but prob 60% of my purchases tend to be Television and older 'archive' stuff at that, then they will be still be DVD. I still pick up bargain bin stuff from Play/Sendit etc and it's impulse by then and that's DVD too

All of the Criterion editions are worth buying/upgrading!

(If you can play Region A that is.)

Yes I still continue to buy DVD. I buy Blu-ray only for movie with lot of special effects or if there is a collector edition I like and doesn't exist on DVD.
And I still buy generally TV shows in DVD because I think the Blu-ray doesn't bring something valuable compared with DVD.
Regards
Cyrille
