Quote: Could you please provide a link to the 40GB PS3 being sold with 10 free Blu-ray movies? The PS3's sales increase started BEFORE the offer of the 80GB PS3 being sold with 10 free Blu-ray movies at Wal-Mart ONLY...on Black Friday.
The deal is over, but you can read about it here (top of page). Fry's didn't offer 10 free movies. Fry's Electronics gave 4 free movies with the 40GB PS3 (Spiderman 3 is in the box already). Look a bit more carefully at your link. Of course, you can argue the point that it totals 10 movies at some point down the line when they receive the other 5. But, I was talking about 10 free movies at time of purchase. That's why I said Wal-Mart. Otherwise, the Wal-Mart deal is 15 free movies. None of that negates the fact that the PS3 outsold the Wii on those two weeks, since that was before turkey day. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

To bad the other company didn't do that. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

That being the case, I have not doubt that the Wii is just as hard to find in Japan as it is everywhere else, which could account for the sales difference. Quote:

| Posted: | | | | So, we have the following numbers for the month of October: Wii: 519,000 Xbox 360: 366,000 PS3: 121,000 That is a 4.29:1 sales ratio, between the Wii and the PS3. I guess America didn't get the memo. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. | Posted: | | | | With Nintendo's [Wii] gaming console scarce this season, shoppers are lining up and checking the Web for sightings."A year after its launch, the small video game console sells out almost immediately when it reaches stores, even after Nintendo Co. has ramped up production several times." "Nintendo executives said the Japanese company had thought its production schedule -- about 1.8 million consoles a month -- would be sufficient." here's the link to L.A. Times story from December 8, 2007: |

I posted the October NPDs a while back, we are currently waiting on the numbers for November, where Wii was scarce, and Sony and MS both claimed huge victories over Black Friday week, all marketing spin until the actual NPD numbers come out Dec 13th. On the software side I will be interested to see how Uncharted did against the likes of Rock Band, Assassins Creed, Mario Galaxy and Mass Effect. I'm playing it right now and its the first game on my PS3 I've really enjoyed, isn't overwhelmingly average and I would rate higher than a 7. |

| Posted: | | | | Bestbuy locally got some Nintendo Wii in stock last wednesday. An employee/friend of mine gave me the heads up and told me that they were going to pass out vouchers at 8am in the morning to those who wanted one. They did absolutely zero marketing for the shipment, so everything was word-of-mouth.
The shipment was for 36 Wii consoles, apparently some consumers lined up outside at 5am, nothing quite like Black Friday, but according to my friend, they sold all 36 Wii consoles in a matter of minutes. The manager estimated that 120 people showed up for the 36 vouchers!!! | | | My Collection!!! |

Luckily i started looking at the end of October. I found at that my local Best Buy got shipments on Wed and Sat. I asked different employees and they said to check back on Sunday morning and Wed nights. So i stopped by on Wed night (first week of Nov) and they had just put them on the shelf. They had rec'd 46 and had already sold 10. So I picked one up for my wife and another for a friend of mine who had asked me to get one for him as well. First time I have ever shopped early for Christmas. Sure glad I did though. |

I have no doubt that they can claim victory. Let's say, hypothetically, that we have 40 people going to a store. 20 are looking for a Wii and 20 are looking for a PS3. The store has plenty of PS3s but only 10 Wiis. Well, that would end up giving Sony a 2:1 edge in sales. That is why I asked how A_S knew the availability was the same as it has always been. Availability can skew the numbers, as can a number of other factors. Without knowing all the facts, you can't make any conclusions or predict trends. The fact of the matter is, with all due respect to the Japanese market, the Wii is the most popular system for the second Christmas in a row. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I have a 360 so most of the FPS games I will get for the 360. Looking for more fun games that we can play with 2- 4 people.
Thanks for any input that you guys can provide. Big Brain Academy is a must have. Rayman Raving Rabbits is fun as well if you have that sense of humor. The problem with the latter is that you have to unlock the mini games though a stupid "story mode" (at least in the first version, I have not tried the second). I guess they wanted to make it a better single player game which failed miserable (obviously) but the idiots did manage to destroy a big part of the multiplayer appeal in the process. If you know a 12 year old kid, pay him to play though the game to unlock everything for you. | | | Regards Lars |

It's an educated guess based on past events. You are guessing as well, but is it an educated guess based on past sales numbers for the nation? Doesn't your GUESS equates to...the Wii is so hard to find that consumers couldn't find the additional consoles USUALLY shipped to the stores? Or, maybe your GUESS equates to...Nintendo has been shipping about the same amount to stores in Japan for the past 10+ months, but all of a sudden they decided to cut that by a good amount coming up to the holiday season. Either way, it doesn't seem to be based on past or current events, so what IS your statement based off of? Quote: I didn't make the claim, you did. 10 free movies is 10 free movies. You asked for proof of 10 free movies and I gave it to you. Now you want to change the parameters? Sorry, but no. Well, then Wal-mart (10 free in-store and 5 mail-in movies) definitely doesn't fit the scenario then. Obviously, we were talking about two different things. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

I wouldn't expect Uncharted to sell better than a title on the 2 year old, bigger install base of the 360. I also wouldn't expect Uncharted to sell better than the most anticipated title for the Wii with a larger install base, either. It would be something that would defy logic, if that were to happen. What I do know to be true is that the PS3 has over 120 games available and that is more than the Wii. I also know that the top rated games for the PS3 out weigh those for the Wii. Those top rated PS3 games also out weigh the amount of top rated games for the Xbox 360 at the 1 year mark. That's pretty damn good. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |
