| Posted: | | | | When you are ready to build your database, make sure to check back with us. We have been helping users on bulk import / export tasks for quite awhile. There are a bunch of tools and techniques available. In terms of extra fields, I believe that one of the plugins, CCV, allows you to save extra information. DVDP also has the Notes field, and TAGS which are also used by people to store additional information not available as a specific field. They are essentially unlimited. If you structure the information in Notes, such as making some kind of markup (e.g. [MyData] Here it is [/MyData] ), you can even create scripts and custom HTML windows to display or report on the data. | | | Thanks for your support. Yes, the various plug-ins are very functionally complementary to the core software and I will make full use of the plug-ins at a later time after I am more proficient in using the main DVD Profiler software itself...
Meanwhile, I like the suggestion in using the native TAGS and Notes fields in DVDP to start and will then explore the various plugs-in
I am amazed that DVDP forum group is a very closely knitted family, ready to help out green horns like me :-)
Thanks again |

Thanks again Thanks for the kind words. As Blair said, screen shots tell only part of the story! | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. |

- My Movies can import from DVD Profiler
I've forgotten how/why but My Movies has changed this function.
I would research this because I believe it will delete your invelos database once utilized. This is what I remember reading. It comes up when you want to import your collection from invelos to My Movies: "Important The import is meant as a method of fully switching your collection to My Movies, allowing you to abandon your current application, which means that the import will clear your collection when the import starts - it currently cannot be used to append data to an existing collection." |

| Posted: | | | | You are misinterpreting that, Kathy. It will clear the All My Movies collection when the import starts, i. e. it will overwrite, not append. But the wording is a bit confusing.
And even that seems to be only half true. After importing I had two AMM collections, one named Sample and one named Collection, so named because my export file was Collection.xml, I guess. So presumably the import will only overwrite an AMM collection with the same name.
But who cares about that? The important thing is that it doesn't do anything to your Profiler collection. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Ric01: Quote: For those in the forum who knows the features of both software well, please help me decide by listing down the pros of DVD profiler vs All my movies. I do not know last versions of All my movies, so I cannot compare both programs. But I can speak of my twelve years use of Dvdprofiler and say how I see this product. The program is very great, I would rate it 9,5/10. Of course things can always be improved, but if the program had to stay like it is now, it would not be a big problem for me: - large and efficient database functions that allow sorting, filtering, searching and linking. - possibility to have specific headshots for cast and crew. Those headshots may be generic (one photo for all movies of one actor), or specific (one photo for each movie for the same actor). - possibility to have as many images to illustrate the profiles, particularly screenshots from the movies. - possibility to personnalize profiles about content (data) and layouts. Of course, the program needs databases to work. There is an online database for profiles, provided by Invelos, and databases for headshots and screencaptures provide by users. The main problem is about Invelos profiles that reproduce exactly data that are on dvd covers and in credits, including errors. The choice to reproduce errors has very bad effects on database functions (searching, filtering and sorting), and need personnal correction for people wanting to use those functions. As names are recopied from credits, the same actor may get two or more non linking names, that is also a problem (for example, Gong Li does not link with Li Gong). Fortunately, this problem can be very easily corrected using a plugin which uses IMDb's unique name for each actor. Plugins are the other very interesting part of this program. Though not provided by Invelos, those plugins, made by great users ( ), allow to correct most of database problems. I really do not see any reason to quit DVDprofiler to manage my movies collection. I just regret the way data are entered in the online database, so many people have to correct the same errors instead of correcting them once for everybody. I think that there are more people who want correct data in their database than people who want to see reproductions of existing errors. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks surfeur51 and everyone for all your great discussion I am seeing that DVD Profiler is a winner for my purpose, albeit some minor shortcomings, understandably present in most software as there is nothing perfect in this world. I believe the various Plug-ins will complement DVDP. In addition to the great forum family that I am feeling great to be a part of, the main feature that attracted me to DVDP is its ability to differentiate the many Episodic TV series discs that I have in my DVD collection. For example, I need to track and differentiate the various DVD discs for both Season 1 and Season 2 of TV series Homeland, Season 1- Disc 1, Season 1-Disc 2, Season 1 - Disc 3 etc etc and Season 2 - Disc 1, Season 2 -Disc 2 etc Each episode have its own synopsis, cast, guest stars...in the case of TV Series, "Frasier", each episode has it own script writers and there are different directors who directed various episodes in the various DVD discs in various Seasons and Episodes of Frasier Correct me if I am wrong, I think only DVDP has the ability to allow me to input with that level of granular detail for each episodic DVD discs where other cataloging software will only capture one movie with one entry and, if I am not mistaken, TV episodes will be lumped into one line item.. which obviously will not work for me. Hence, thanks to everyone, I think I am going for DVD Profiler |

| Posted: | | | | I heard somewhere (I may be wrong) that DVD Profiler is second to none when managing actual DVDs that have been released.
Can I use DVDP's wishlist function to keep track of/remind myself of streaming movies (pay per view) that I like to watch in the future? Those streaming videos may or may not be available in DVD format. If I type in a movie title in DVDP that do have not have any DVD being released, would DVDP generate the same movies details as those movies with DVD releases ?
Thanks in advance |

You can create custom media types and custom collections. Quote: Those streaming videos may or may not be available in DVD format. If I type in a movie title in DVDP that do have not have any DVD being released, would DVDP generate the same movies details as those movies with DVD releases ? Probably not. The online database only contains information for commercially released DVDs/Blu-rays. If a movie hasn't been released to disc and contributed to the online database by a DVD Profiler user then it won't be there. --------------- |

Thanks in advance It is truly a mess out there. Everybody wants to force the user through their own portal. Even Gracenotes can't get the complete metadata for DVDs and BDs. Forget about Netflix, HBO and Showtime Movies, etc. Netflix used to have a near perfect idea. It was a free public API where developers could query movie metadata and use results in any product. They did not use UPC, and cast / crew was not complete, but it was very useful. But they scrapped it recently. No more free lunch. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | another question to my forum friends on hardware requirements as I could not find this subject being discussed in any forums after using the search function on all the forum for the last 30 mins..maybe I have been searching in the wrong places :-)
Would the latest version of DVD Profiler with a database size of say, 3,000 entries run smoothly on a Core 2 dual processor, Win 7, 32bit machine, 4Meg ram and 150G of Hard drive...plus Dvd writer
If you foresee any problems, I may need to hold off purchasing DVDP and upgrade my PC first
Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance When you state "4 Meg ram" I'm assuming you meant 4 GB. DVD Profiler will run just fine on those specs. |
