I do not care if it takes 10 hours to download, but the app shuts itself down all the time, this IS bad programming.

| Posted: | | | | I think people are overlooking the shut down issue you're having, but it does seem you are the only person having that issue. It may be a fault with the app, it may be a fault with the media the app is installed on, it may be some other piece of software on your phone causing the issue. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Quote: wtf ? And which part of "Needs exclusive access to online connection" was it you didn't understand? Even though you doubt that, temporarily switching of all other apps has, so far, helped with this problem. One might argue if this actually is good programming (It's not), but blaming the program for your own unwillingness to use a (known working) workaround isn't exactly the best possible solution either. EDIT: But nevermind, I tried to show you how it might work, you chose to ignore this. No need for me to continue here. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | I agree that this is a bit stubborn of me, but as you admitted, to have shut down my phone for hours or a day, just to get one app to work is indeed bad programming.
But I will give this a try during tonight and I am almost sure the app will still shutdown itself, but I am willing to try this.

But in this case it's probably best to open a support ticket, because, as suggested by Lithurge, it then might be a problem that is specific to your software environment. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Donnie,
This may be just my overlooking it in this thread, but I didn't see it mentioned. When you download the DB from your desktop app to your phone, you (general usage of you) have to let DVDP desktop running until it is complete. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | The "dvd profiler has closed" may not be caused by the app itself. This is actually your OS telling you that dvd profiler has crashed. Maybe this could be avoided with better programming, but normally this means something happened that the app is not prepared to handle. In the case of dvdp this could also come from a bad connection, or the display turning off and disabling the data connections while in deepsleep, etc. You could try to install alogcat and get a log from your system that might get you a clue what is causing the crash. |

| Posted: | | | | Thx for all the help. Yeh, i figured out after the very first crash that my DVDProfiler needs to stay running on my windows system Midian, I am pretty sure you are correct with this, I will try later to shut everything down on my cell and then try to transfer from my windows profiler. | Posted: | | | | Well,
I am done here, I shutted everything down that can be shut down on my Cell. I diabled standbymode, I even let the display on.
Still the same crap, after a few secs or minutes, while reading the database, it says "Sadly DVD Profiler was closed".
I am not wasting anymore time on this, the app has failed me, but I will survive the loss of 6 Euro.
What angers me that I really would have liked to have my collection with me on my cell and how such a non working beta software can be released to buy.
thx alot to everyone who tried to help. Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

I diabled standbymode, I even let the display on. Did you have to manually disable these? When updating the collection DVDP-A is supposed to automatically disable Standby and screensaver-mode. If I recall correctly the original Amazon version had some problems with unwarranted shutdowns. Please check the Amazon Store app if you have the latest version of DVDProfiler running. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Yes, I have to disable the standbymode, if i do not do it DVDProfiler crashes as soon as the display turns off and the cell goes to standby. What do you mean with latest version running ? There is only one app that I can buy and download, there aren't different versions. The one I had was 1.03. And I already deinstalled everything from my cell. Two days of anger was really enough Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com | | | Last edited: by DarklyNoon |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds like you have a very aggressive standby mode that kills apps so probably not a fault with Profiler.
When I'm connected my display stays on at all times and I've never had a connection failure, but then I'm using WiFi only. I wouldn't even think of trying to download my database over 3g, the connections are just to unreliable where I live. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Taking into consideration that on your device apps obviously aren't able to overrule energy-management settings my guess would be a misplaced setting on your device and/or an incompatibility with another custom app. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Well, of course I cannot know if any other app interferes with Profiler, but what I can say that all my other apps work like a charm, I did not have a single problem with any app I have installed. So for me it is pretty obvious that DVDProfiler is the problem here, well I have to say I am sure it is. Because when I shut down everything that was running, the same problems still occur. And again I have to say, an application which needs me to shut down everything else either on my cell or on my computer is very badly programmed. Such a thing should never be allowed to sell. Just my 2 cents on this imho failed android app Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | But the point is that you're the only person reporting this issue. With somebody else reporting the app as running on the same phone you have, it strongly suggests there is something on your phone that's causing a conflict and then the crash.
Should that conflict happen? Probably not, but anybody who's used computers for any length of time knows that not every configuration can be accounted for. So why don't you try and help fix the issue by raising it with invelos via a support ticket, rather than just moaning about how you've thrown away 6 euros? | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |
