Not currently lending to anyone now. Used to lend to my sister but after having to nag her to bring DVDs back over and over again and then getting them back in the wrong cases, smudged up with fingerprints and a couple even deeply scratched I stopped letting her borrow.

I used to have a friend that I let borrow (who has since moved away) and he was a movie collector as well, so he always took really good care of them and I never had any problem letting him borrow DVDs.

well, fortunately my family ain't no where near me so i don't have to risk lending to them...

i do lend to a couple of friends--isn't that the reason for having your collection online, or it is simply for bragging right? i have had some disappear for long periods of years...will never lend to those folks again. also got burned with someone damaging a cover and declaring she had nothing to do with it. i do still loan her things--ever hear of the Alpha Female?--but nothing in a fancy box...sometimes she just gets a jewel case with the disc.

but i do find that some people don't really understand the concept of "returning" other people's property...

No I never loan my DVDs out anymore. I've had several bad experiences where I've either gotten a disc back that was scratched, scuffed, or cracked, or the case & cover were damaged. Once, I had a friend just out right lose one of the DVDs from a two disc set. I really don't dig having to track down replacements because someone is too cheap to go rent 'said movie' for them self.

Nope! Never have loaned out my DVDs... I learned my lesson from when I was collecting VHS Tapes (remember those?)  And they used tyo get ruined or I used to get claims that they never borrowed the movies. So when I first decided to start collecting DVDs I decided I would never loan them out.. not even to family. Everyone is more then welcome to come here to watch a movie any time they want... but they are to never leave the house!

Remember very well this VHS issue. I was very often p***ed when the loaned tapes where not rewinded when returned. Many rental stores for video tapes took x-tra charge for this. But that's a long time ago... now we can be happy that we have products like this!

I will lend to a couple of people I work with, but I do not include slip covers, or anything that may be in the case.  Case and DVD only.

They are painfully aware that if they put one little scratch on the DVD, that I will slowly take their life.

Kahless,

Unfortunately most of the responses you would get to this have seen Skip's blockbuster link before but anyway. I am like Pete. I learned the hard way but with CD's and laser discs  as opposed to VHS tapes. I know what VHS are but I can say I have only watched 2 or three in my lifetime and I am old. The picture quality on VHS always bugged me too much to get interested in those. Never lend them out without a $100 deposit. Once I say that nobody wants to borrow them. My taste in DVD's is quite unique anyway.
