Kane in number one for me. It has been for years.

I remember seeing it in American History class in ninth grade. I was the only one in class who thought it was great - all the other kids thought it was stupid and boring. But I was enthralled.

Funny thing is a month or so before that we saw Gone with the Wind, and I was about the only kid who hated that movie.

Now don't get me wrong. As a film aficionado I can appreciate GWTW. I just don't like it.

Yeah But Snow White and 7 Dwarfs moved up the ladder from 49 to 34...

It's cool to hate Titanic, but it really defined the year when it came out. In terms of a box office phenomenon, it's noteworthy. I don't believe it's better than any of the films that were removed, but it's just a measure of the times.

I'm looking over my notes as I comprise my list of AFI's in my library and I have noticed with Titanic that
it has garnered AFI votes with :100 Movie quotes; 100 movie songs;100 passions;100 thrills;
and now today it has also hit the AFI greatest list
So love it or hate you can't deny these facts ..

It's a great list and probably every movie on it deserves to be there. But of course it is limited to American films, none of the great classic foreign movies are on the list:  Seven Samurai, Wages of Fear, Tokyo Story,      Ugetsu, Children of Paradise, Cimema Paradiso, Amelie, grave of the Fireflies  ........ the list goes on

I like Titanic too.

I reckon it's a pretty spot on list. Fully agree with Citizen Kane; I'd seen it and liked it years ago, then ended up having to watch it three times in a week for a film studies course. It's the only film I can think of that actually got better with each of those viewings. The lecturer also made us watch My Beautiful Laundrette three times. Not so good.

I watched the show last night, it was interesting to hear actor's commentary on which movies were inspirational or why they loved them. I wonder how the list was formulated - does anyone know who is involved in the voting process? I'm also curious to what the original list of top 100 movies were - does anyone have that list?
