| Posted: | | | | Are there any plans to make a sister app for Audio Cds.?
Other programs that I have tried are really clunky, not user friendly, or the database contents are not accurate.
Thanks Michael |

Thanks Michael If you reflect on it, you will realize that the "app" is not the hard part. The value of DVD Profiler is mostly due to the fact that the applications are supported by a rigorous process for collecting and validating the metadata. The DVD Profiler desktop app is so versatile, that you can actually build the equivalent of a skin to make it handle CDs. But there is no process, online database, or web based tools for managing the metadata collection. That's the biggest issue IMHO. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Hmmm..... That's an interesting thought! I've thought of it many times, but CDDB was bought by Gracenote, and Gracenote charges humongous fees for access to their commercial API. I'm not sure that CDDB is even available any more. Is it current? I have tried to pursue getting a license to Gracenote. They want even talk to "small fry." And they screw over even the big boys. My 400 disc BD Changer no longer works with Gracenote, due to disputes between Onkyo and Gracenote (which I think was owned by Sony at one time.) The world of metadata via an API is a mess. That's why DVD Profiler is so valuable - it has real, dedicated people who make it work. I remember when CDDB used to work. I even had code that I wrote on a custom contract that would pull CDDB data during automated CD rips from Sony VGPXL1B2 changers. Anybody wants that code, I'll try to find it. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! | Posted: | | | | To OP,
You can via manual and custom entries make a DB of you CDs using DVDP. It would require some work on your part, but it is doable.

This reminds me that Ken added a developer-requested feature last time, that so far, we have not exploited. Without going into details, it would give plugins the possibility of supporting custom profile ID classes. Today's Profile IDs are by default related to DVDs and Blu-Ray media, or generic "manual". But other classes can now be supported. Coupled with the ability to create custom fields and multiple variants of a UPC, it would be entirely possible for a plugin to support other media (or any commodity) having unique UPCs and other metadata. So, anybody with "Skills," come join the party in the Plugin Developer Forum, and you can have fun taking care of some of these advanced user requests. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | musicbrainz.org has a great database. Many programs (media players etc.) can connect straight to it to interrogate the metadata of files.
Indeed, the design of musocbrainz is one I'd rather like DVDProfiler to adopt.

| Posted: | | | | I also want to weigh in on this. If we could get a program like DVD Profiler to be just as detailed for audio CDs, that woul be very impressive. I collect Classical Music CDs and Super Auido CD's and would be very excited to see this developed for DVD Profiler. Just adding my two cents. Right now the only thing I use is Tellico, but it does require a virtual machine to run an entire OS like linux mint to run one program to catalog and index my CD collection. I am still very surprised that all of the CD collection management software I have looked at do not handle classical music very well. Come DVD Profiler. Where is the CD Profiler.. please... take my money... please...!! |

FWIW I prefer the firetongue one but, as ever, YMMV | | | Chris | | | Last edited: by Mole |
