I often use DVDprofiler to compare international releases of the same movie, it would be very useful to see if the video is encoded in MPEG2, VC-1 or AVC/MVC. | | | Last edited: by corleone |

| Posted: | | | | I don't believe that Ken wants to add more data fields where special software is needed to find out what belongs inside. While my TV tells me if the picture is 1080p oder i, I have no idea how to find out the encoding of a movie. | | | Recently bought films:
The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD] |

But of course, there might be BD-Players/DVD-Players that do not give that information. |

The green triangle 'information' button brings up the info on the PS4. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

Mine too; all I had to do was look up how to do it in the manual! I agree it would be good to add the feature, both the codec (resolution/p or i) and the encoding type. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong | | | Last edited: by Voltaire53 |

An example: the US Blu-ray release of The Descent originally came out with an AVC MPEG-4 encode. Lionsgate silently re-released it a bit later with an MPEG-2 encode (and with DNR newly added), but with the same exact UPC and identical covers except for the spine changing color. Why they did it, I have no idea...but they did. I believe they also did similar re-encodes with their Young Guns Blu-ray, and possibly others. The later version of The Descent has been on the market for at least the past 6+ years or more. So people viewing the profile in the database might think it has an AVC encode, when their disc, or the release that's readily available on the market, is really MPEG-2. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Ken has made available to plugins a way to save custom fields. Both DJ Doena and I have recently published plugins that are capable of saving custom data into the database. These custom fields are (optionally) backed up and restored, sent to the Online, can be used in HTML sections, searched in the Filter Tab, and appear in Exported XML. Custom data cannot be contributed, but the convenience of having the data in the database and usable in filters is substantial. And if Invelos ever picks up support for a similar data field, a simple utility can be written to copy the data over into the official version of the field. Maybe take a look? Seems like this should be enough to create a variant profile, and the disc IDs will not be identical. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Except the coverart and everything else is identical, except for the "spine" color which we don't profile here. I don't think it would qualify as the rules currently read. | | | Corey |

I think he meant if we tracked codecs, that a change in encode only would be enough to warrant a new variant. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |
