A visual effect supervisor is also a valid credit when the COMPANY is an additional visual effects company.

That's exactly the question SpikyCactus is asking.

Apologies if this has been considered before.

I'm fairly sure this *has* been discussed before somewhere - the trick is how to find it, and I can't. As far as I can recall, the consensus up to now was what huskersports and Kluge are saying: if someone is given the job title "Additional Visual Effects Supervisor", then he's out, but if he's credited as "Visual Effects Supervisor" under an "Additional Visual Effects by {company name}" header, then he's in. That's the approach I'm seeing in most profiles, anyway. But obviously, there's something to be said for either approach. One of the problems is that groups of "Additional Cast" or "Additional Voices" aren't disqualified either.

'The Girl From Petrovka': George C. Webb

'Thoroughly Modern Millie': George C. Webb

For the record: the fact that this common name turns out to be the variant *without* the middle initial, means that the British actor George Webb (1912-1998) now needs to have his birth year added.

Personally I strongly prefer using the data from the BBFC in such cases, as this is not a format that readily fits our field. But I, too, have found that not everyone agrees, so I've usually ended up nog submitting this particular bit of data, and keeping it local instead. Luckily, this format hasn't been used in many, many years - I only have a handful of these left in my collection.

I wanted to document the common name for special effects man Dennis (K.) Petersen. It's a slam dunk for the variant without the middle initial, but the huge numbers of 'Breaking Bad' profiles missing a consistent original title throw off the raw CLT numbers.

Edward Warschilka and Edward A. Warschilka are are two different people, father and son, both editors. The father, born in 1928 and died in 2004, has no middle initial, the son does, and is also occasionally credited with the "Jr." suffix.

I've seen contributions where their credits are linked together using the son's name, having the most titles in the CLT, as the common name for the father, but that's blatantly wrong. Further reading:

- https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0913149/ (father)
- https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1836376/ (son)

Again, the father's common name is clear, that's Edward Warschilka. What's more interesting is the common name for the son:

Not sure how you can say Jean-François Ferland is the common name with only 4 confirmed credits vs. 6 confirmed for  Jean-François (Jafaz) Ferlan.

It's simply a matter of counting the titles. It'd be great if all titles were all confirmed, sure, but it isn't written anywhere that they *have* to. There's always a common name today. As always, things may be different tomorrow, but today, the title count favors Jean-François Ferland. If it's different tomorrow, rest assured that I'll be among the first ones to fix my profiles.

So in 'Devil's Gate' he's credited as visual effects supervisor in the opening credits as Jean-François Ferland and again in the end credits as J-F (Jafaz) Ferland. How would you suggest I reflect that in this list? Films where the same crew members are credited, for the same jobs, in both the opening and the closing credits, are not exactly rare, that happens quite a lot actually, certainly in what you'd call "foreign" films. I've always been told that we don't list the same crew members doing the same job twice, and that the opening credits take precedence. Do you agree?

And now that there are acting credits for this guy, it may become more likely that the Jean-François cast entry in 'Screeem', a short film in the database under UPC 622406-221690, also belongs to him. Looking at that profile, Anouk Whissell appears in 'Screeem' as well - Anouk Whissell being one of the writer-directors of 'Turbo Kid', that our Mr. Ferland worked on as well. So there *is* a connection there...

The CLT also shows a lone Canadian DVD with an alledged acting credit for a "Jean-François Ferland". It doesn't seem to be this visual effects supervisor, seems unlikely, but I can't be entirely sure, so I thought I'd mention it.
